Dishing with Diane Keaton!

And Lara Spenser, of course, which is how we start off the show, just like every other Friday! February first is Go Red for Women - for heart awareness. With my mom’s recent troubles, I can’t recommend this enough. Check out the site, and get checked out yourself! (What do you mean, when was the last time I went? You shush, you and look! SHOES! Something SHINEY!)
Next up, shoes! WHY do people wear UGGS in LA? Seriously, weird right? Now they have flipflop sandals, the Ugg Fluffie, coming out soon which have the super soft feel of your regular Uggs - and aren’t quite as ugly. Except that they’re sandals. But hey, you do what you gotta, right?
The Feed Bag is next, made by Lauren Bush. It’s the UN’s way to feed kids in school around the world. One bag for $60 and you feed a child every day for a full school year. Terri Hatcher used them as gift wrap this Christmas - excellent idea!
For the men - what do you get our guys who have everything? Jack Black skin care system. Not horribly expensive, a full set for $50. Nice!
For the girls - La Mer Cleansing Foam, very chick, very expensive, but it has pearls in it! Whee! (Serioiusly? Why? I still don’t get it. (L) )
On to the ultra cheap - Gillette has a new razor out for women, the Venus Embrace coming out on February 1st, has 5 blades and leaves legs ultra smooth. Then the whole audience got $125 bucks to spend at SpaFinder.com. Nice!
Diane Keaton joins Rachael at the Kitchen Table next, and I’m completely distracted by the shiny black gloves. The hate is too cute, but the gloves… really? She asks if she’s gone too far? And I hate to say it - yeah. But otherwise she looked uber classy, as always. She laughs when talking about her style and says “it’s a very good idea to cover it all up.” She’s very interested in not having any visual reference to her body at all. No more long baths for her, it’s showers and no lingering!
She agrees that she’s not comfortable on the red carpet really, and jokes “If I had a man, I’d take him with me!” and asked for volunteers. They move on to talking about her kids, and she says she’s something of an awkward mom when it comes to her 11 and 7 year old kids. Who knew a hair dryer will help do CPR on a pet rat that was dropped into the toilet? How cool is she, really? I can forgive the gloves for that alone.
That, and the fact that her first job was selling bras and as she was - at that time - interested in her breasts and whether they would grow of course, and she got caught poking the bras in the department store to check if they were soft or padded, etc. Hahahh!
They moved on to let Diane gush about her Mad Money co-stars, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes. Diane says that she feels bad for ‘other people’ who can’t handle the spotlight and paparazzi like Katie does - she’s like, a pro. Rachael talks about all her great experiences and movies and Diane grins and says “All those MEN… it was pretty good!” She added it’s the best way to relate to a man because in the movie they have to love you - then you can exchange them for another one!
She’s also pleased to be able to showcase that a woman at her age can still be sexy, still has blood pulsing through her veins. But what does she love more then anything? A good bulliten board. She’s also involved in saving old homes - she says “all you need to do is call me, I’ll help you!” Of course, it’s easiest to go through her book, California Romantica, which showcases the homes she’s helping save.
Next up, Dr. Travis Stork, everyone’s favorite Bachelor is back to help a viewer who’s never gone to the doctor in all her 23 years. She’s terrified of the process…. and she’s an EMT and a med student! While hers is a little more extreme, it’s not unusual to be afraid of the doctor - it’s a common anxiety. Rachael holds her hand through a B-12 shot, and Maria admits that it wasn’t THAT bad.
The three most important tests you need to get at the doctors? Remember, says Doc Travis, most of the diseases in the country are silent killers. Get your blood pressure checked, colesterol checked as well as your blood sugar checked for diabetes. And if you panic? Remember that YOU are in control - the Doctors work for YOU.
(Made me laugh when Rachael told her to “grow up!” by the way - because that is SO my mom. haha! We’re very big on “Just say ouch and be done with it!” round bout here!)
Lauren Ogles of Get Cooking Kid joins Rachael at the kitchen table as one of Rachael’s Community of Incredible People, teaching kids how to eat healthy.
Oh yeah, what IS for dinner tonight? Honey Mustard Chicken Tenders and Buttermilk Smashed Potatoes. Yum!
