Feeling sexy with Michael Buble…

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

10_30_topper.jpg

We hop right into the kitchen today to get started on a special date night dinner - starting with Sage Stuffed, Pancetta-wrapped jumbo shrimp with baby Panzanella salad for a first course, with the promise of past later on. Why is it the perfect date night meal? It’s fool-proof, super easy, and even cheaper then going out! And hey, if you manage to screw it up, your date will be impressed you tried, and take-out pizza can be romantic too.

Next comes the fun stuff - how does your body image reflect on your sex life? Brave viewers come together to talk about sex after kids, and weight issues at various ages. Everything from bare skin being hidden in the dark, and wearing lingerie and trying to look good. Poor body image is the number one cause of bad sex for women, according to Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, who offers good tips to help you boost confidence in the bedroom.

Tip number one - walk around the house naked - when your alone, close the blinds and just do it! It feels freeing and good to just let the boobs drop and stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself you’re beautiful just the way you are. Change the negative messages you give yourself! It all comes down to the fact that women THINK too much. Men don’t care about their beer bellies, why should we care about the baby pouch? Think about your partner - not yourself so much and it’ll be much more satisfying.

And whatever you do - don’t think that you’re not average. Statistics of people having sex - it’s usually one and a half times a week for a whole three minutes a go. Yeah. THREE MINUTES. So don’t judge your performance by what you read - do what makes you happy!

After all the blushing and giggling through this segment, Michael Buble joins Rach at the kitchen table, to achieve the one dream he hasn’t achieved yet - hanging out with Rachael and watching Harry Connick, Jr, while cooking for each other. “You would make some beautiful thing,” he said, “And I would make microwave popcorn.” Rachael, of course, reminds him of his girlfriend Emily Blunt.

They chatted, cooked, and he even serenaded Rachael in the kitchen, as well as shared a song from his third album with the audience. Click here to win two tickets to Michael Buble’s Wembley Stadium Concert at Yum-O!

What’s for dinner - Limoncello Pasta and the Sage-Stuffed Pancetta-Wrapped Jumbo Shrimp with Baby Panzanella Salad.

Come on DOWN!

10_29_topper.jpg

Drew Carey, the new host of the Price is Right, and the continued host of The Power of Ten, joined Rachael at the kitchen table, to talk about his new shows, and his favorite parts of hosting: The audience. He likes to remind them that it feels good to want good things to happen for someone else - and it’s easy to feel that good every moment of your life! Life lessons from the funny man - love it!

After realizing that yes! He can eat that pizza she made for him, they took a snack break, and then moved on to yet another game show - Rach’s favorite! Stump the Rach! From hot dog spankers to painful peg legs for S+M Pirates, there was a little bit of everything in the StR trunk - thanks to funnyman Drew. The actual products: Hot Dog Grill Roller, Light Bulb Changer, Mega Clip, and the Melon Wedger - which for the first time ever, Rachael got correct!

I have a lot in common with Joey’s problem in the next segment - I’m ALWAYS running late. I like my sleep, I like my computer, I like my time, and end up late a lot. Not quite to the extent here, but some days… Joey was even late to her father’s wake, and is consistently late to therapy for her youngest daughter, among other problems caused by the late bug. Time management expert Julie Morgenstern helps stage an intervention to help Joey face her problem, and hear how her problem is affecting the rest of her family. Then they sat down together and began to work out a system for a 30-day program to reclaim some of her lost time.

A week into the program, and Joey says things are going great - she’s learning the four D’s to help clear up her schedule (Delete things, Delay, Diminish, and Delegate) and hasn’t been late once, much to the surprise of some of her friends and family!

Julie’s advice works for more then just lateness too - she reminds us there’s always a reason behind every bad behavior - find the reason, fix the problem.

What’s for dinner? Philly Cheesesteak Pizza and Antipasto Salad.

Val’s guide to football for girls!

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

10_23topper.jpg

Valerie Bertinelli is looking absolutely fabulous, and joins Rachael’s list of buddies with how to guides, with her Girl’s Guide to Football. Val loves the sport, and is an avid New Orleans Saints fan. Of course, all the men in tight pants makes it worth it for her – “All the men are so gorgeous!”

Val’s tips to help you get into the game with your man? Make game day a big party, be passionate about our team fashion, learn to cheer at the right moments, and negotiate other time with our man. Let him have his Sundays, and compromise with his promise to go somewhere on Saturday. That way you won’t be nagging about game end time! Do something for yourself, or with your girlfriends on game day – Rachael thinks it’s the perfect day to spend at the Spa with the other wives!

Not to be outdone in the buddy category, Kristan Cunningham tackles her toughest challenge yet and transforms an overcrowded and tiny office space into a worker’s paradise. Thirteen special education nurses in a tiny space, with another about to be hired, their tiny 20×31 room is completely crowded! Problems – no storage, the files and even cpr mannequins are strewn all over the place. It’s not shabby chic – it’s just shabby! They even have band-aids over a crack in the wall, and the gal who sits closest to that back wall wears a hot pink hard hat – just in case

With the help of Stables and a bunch of big ole boys got the room into ship shape and WORKEABLE fashion in no time at all! As they say at Staples – that was easy! Click here to see the total transformation!

What’s for dinner? Val’s gumbo for gameday, of course!

Friday Night Lights on Monday!

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

10_22topper.jpg

Monday’s show saw Kyle Chandler and his TV wife Connie Britton stopping by to join Rachael at the Kitchen table to talk about Friday Night Lights. Chandler, the tough talking Football Coach confesses to needing a bit of home when he travels to Texas to shoot the show – he has to bring along one of his three dogs – Miss Wiggles. Who he admits to calling Rocket in public, to help maintain his image. (He was joking!)

Then Connie took over the head of the table to discuss what it’s like to work with all those men. She says it’s heaven and they treat her like a princess, except for Kyle, who’s the biggest practical joker on set – making her a natural target with her gullibility. She tried to get him back, but just couldn’t pull it off – Chandler reigns supreme in the practical joking department!

Becoming a first time mom is a scary proposition – especially when it comes to outfitting the nursery. Never fear! Rachael’s buddies are on scene to help everyone pick and chose. A group of Los Angeles mommies got together to form Baby Planners to help expectant parents shop, plan and gear up for the new arrival – everything from car seats and strollers to diaper pails! Check their site out for some great tips!

Confused by all the different kinds of salt that the Food Network hosts and chefs are always blathering on about? Me too! Rachael took the time on Monday to straighten out some of the confusion.

Use Coarse Kosher Salt for everyday cooking (over the shoulder for luck!), and Sea Salt in a grinder on the table fo extra seasoning. Fleur de Sel, ‘flower of the sea’ is a very pricey salt as it’s imported from France where it’s hand harvested. Rachael says it just tastes like salt so you’ll have to decide on your own if the extra price is worth it. Grey Salt still has all the minerals in it and is hand-harvested as well. It adds an earthy flavor that gives added depth to your cooking. Smoked salts add great flavor as well, and are really nice for dipping.

And, of course, what’s for dinner? Greek Nacho Bowls and Buffalo Chicken Meatballs.

Bobby Flay, Men in Trees and Dish!

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

10_19_topper.jpg

As usual, Friday’s Dish has a done of good stuff for us! From Rosie O’Donnell’s newest book, Celebrity Detox to A Mighty Heart, just released on DVD, there’s something for everyone. All proceeds from Rosie’s book go to benefit Rosie’s Broadway Kids that brings musical theater to NYC public school children, and the idea of the book is that fame is like a tattoo, it never goes away, and Rosie suggests its time to detox from the excess of celebrity.

Ralph Lauren has a polo shirt out to help raise money for Breast Cancer research, launching “Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Wolrdwide – 100% of the proceeds go o fund research. Frederic Fekkai has an instant hair highlighter that has pearl and diamond dust to give air a multi-dimensional color that washes out – no commitment, just like Sparkling Shimmer Spray! Tickets for the nationwide So You Think You Can Dance tour are on sale now – get your tickets today!

Anne Heche talks about motherhood, and being on the set of Men in Trees, and how she tricks her son into expanding his menu by creative fibbing. Determined he didn’t like fish, she was able to tell him he did after he ate tacos that he thought were made with chicken. Score one for mom!

Last, but not least, Bobby Flay was also on hand Friday to give everyone a tour of his home kitchen, and talk a bit about Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill Cookbook which he’s extremely pleased with. After opening the Mesa Grill in New York 17 years ago, he adds that he’s glad he waited until now to do the cookbook, as a lot of the ingredients have changed over the years. Things that were foreign, such as blue corn chips for example, were relatively unknown – now we eat them right out of a bag. Timing is everything, of course!

What’s for dinner? Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes!

10_18_topper.jpg

No worries so far, though, the skies are gloriously clear, and smoke free where I’m at. Hopefully that will continue, and I won’t end up helping everyone evacuate. Not that I’d mind helping, I’d just rather they not be in danger, right? Right!

So, what’s been happening in Rachael Ray’s world since I last checked in? On Thursday, October 18th, Jeff Probst (or as I like to call him, Mr. Dimples!) stopped by and was put through the spin cycle on the hyman gyroscope by Rach before talking a bit about Survivor: China and some of the challenges he faced while filming.

Being the first America show to ever film an entire season in China, just getting there was difficult and it was discovered that while you can fake Spanish? There is no faking Mandarin! Jeff spent time in China afterwards, and said it was the first time he just wasn’t ready to leave after filming – he even slept on the Great Wall of China one night. “It was spectacular!”

After getting all the dish with Jeff Probst, Rachael talked with a viewer and her mother in law about concerns of the mother regarding her little girl. Life coach Harriette Cole tries to help them find some common ground, with mutual respect for how the granddaughter will be raised, with a little give and take from both of them. Shannon felt like she had to be perfect all the time, while her mother in law, Sharon, assures her that’s not the case. Good news, says Rachael “all you have to do is go home, wash your face and put sweat pants on!”

What’s for dinner? Wayne Brady stops by to help Rachel in the kitchen where she makes BBQ Chicken Sloppy Joes with Cheesy Waffle Fries!

Reporting from the road!

Friday, October 19th, 2007

10_17_topper.jpg

Hidey-ho, Rachael Ray watchers! I’m sitting here nice and relaxed in my friend’s air conditioned home, where I can see the Hollywood sign from her upstairs window, and listen to the COPS helicopters fly overhead on some manhunt of another. It’s AWESOME! I’m having a fabulous time, and wish you all could be here with me!

That said – let’s check in with our favorite dynamo! Wednesday’s show the new host of The Biggest Loser, Allison Sweeny from Days of our Lives. We’ve watched her for years on the soap opera (It’s ok, admit it, you like them too!) and saw some of her weight struggles on camera when she was younger because of it. She used to incorporate her baby son into her workouts, and do arm curls and triceps with him. Now that he’s a toddler, he joins her on walks and hikes. Her newest project (aside from The Biggest Loser, of course) has as a spokesperson for Gerber’s Graduates for Toddlers, which aims to educate parents about nutrition for their little babies.

Also! We saw proof that my big ole tomcat is NOT as fat as I thought he was – at least compared to the overweight animals they showed! A beagle named Scooby that weighs 70 pounds, and a cat named Sam that weighs 23 pounds – though I would have guessed a lot more then that as my cat is 17 pounds and well, is NOT that big. Maybe the camera adds weight like everyone always says it does… hahah!

Dr. Ernie Ward, a veterinarian and weight specialist says it’s mostly the treats that we give the kids, as the portion sizes are too big. Everything in moderation, kids, for us AND our pets! Things to check? You should be able to feel the ribs easily, and from the side, see see an abdominal tuck, not a sagging stomach.

Check with your vet before starting your portly pets on a diet though!

And let’s not forget What’s for dinner! Grrrrreat Chicken & Rice Cakes with Bacon, Chicken Ceasar Salad Stuffed Garlic Bread, Artichoke& Spinach Rolled Stuffed bread.

I’ll pop back in later and catch up, kids! Have fun – I know I am!

Eyelifts, Faith and comfort food!

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

10_16_topper.jpg

10_16eyelift.jpgDr. Rokhar joined Rachael right away today, to talk about the procedure called the 15-minute eye lift - without surgery! It involves filling in the groove between the cheek skin and the fat pads below the eye with restilin, to make it smoother. It lasts about a year, and costs around $800. Julie is brave enough to allow the good Dr. to do the procedure on the show, and the results are amazing!

For more information, check out Dr Rokhar’s site.

Then, Faith Ford joins Rachael at the Kitchen Table to talk about her years in primetime, her new show, and her survival kit. She even has her own cookbook Cooking with Faith! Her box - which she tells all her male co-stars that they cannot get into - is her survival kit, and contains almonds and other snacks because they don’t always have good snacks for her. She has perfume, her cheat sheet of lines, gum and mints. Faith also has the actresses trick for making lipstick kiss proof! split a Kleenex, hold it to your lips, and use a powder puff to help set the lipstick through the tissue.

Ever the good sport, Faith plays ‘how well do you know your co-star’ after assuring us that she loves working with the guys on Carpoolers. She finds guys entertaining, and loves to figure them out. Does she have Jerry O’Connell figured out? Well, she missed guessing his full first name, but the other two questions she got correct. Two out of three isn’t that bad! Though, apparently, Jerry got into her box….

What’s for dinner? Rioja Stoup and Chapata.

Who’s today’s Mystery Taster?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

10_15_topper.jpg

Rachael started the show by making some Outside-In Pizza Paninis for the Mystery Taster, and then she started asking question.

How did he arrive? A boat and a plane.
Hair done in a Salon or a Barber shop? Both - Rachael decides it’s a metrosexual male!
A reward - thank the academy, kiss the Emmy, championship ring? All three, a multitasker!

0_16.jpg

That was it for the first round (And yes, of course, we could see who it is - but if I tell you right away, that takes all the fun out of it, no?), and we moved on to talk to Gretta, who brought fashion ideas that anyone, size 0-16 can wear! Rachael wasn’t too sure that Gretta could make the challenge, but she showed up with three miracle outfits that were fool-proof styles for real women! From the wrap dress to empire waists to clever layered looks, Gretta passed this test with, well, style!

LOVE the look of heels but HATE breaking them in? Here’s Gretta’s Quick Tricks for Your Kicks!
- Scratch the bottom of your shoes with sandpaper to avoid sliding.
- Use some rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and rub it on the interior of the show where you need a little stretch, then put it on for 15 minutes.
- Traveling and without rubbing alcohol? Use a hair dryer to warm up the leather and open it up without ruining it!

10_15_RandyJackson_1.jpgBack to our Mystery Taster!
You can find his albums in the looooove area.
She asks for his catch phrase - and he says he loves cats. (Yeah, DAWWWWG!) Rachael guesses Andrew Lloyd Webber as a joke, then decides to look and finds the one and only Randy Jackson from American Idol!

They dish about American Idol a bit, now in the audition phase for the 7th season, as well as his kids being his harshest critics - “They critique the dawg!” and tell him flat out he’s wrong on occasion. Also - we all watched Randy shrink in size - what was the reasoning behind it? Five years ago he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and had to change his lifestyle to get it under control.

Want to learn more about diabetes? You can hit our own 451 Press blog, Diabetes Health Talk, as well as hit IknowDiabetes.org where you can share your story about living with Type 2 Diabetes - and whoever wins the contest gets to do a PSA with Randy in LA!

What’s for dinner? Inside-Out Sausage Chops.

Thursday and Friday’s shows!

10_11_topper.jpg

The Fey Ray show! Thursday’s Rachael Ray show saw Tina Fey joining Rach at the kitchen table, complete with cue cards and tips for taking your Emmy on an airplane! They won’t let you take nail clippers, but you can wrap your heavy Emmy and carry it right on. Gotta love TSA logic! Her daughter shared some kid art for Rach to add to her connection, and of course, there was plenty of dish about 30 Rock.

Then, Make up artist Mally Roncal gives us tips to look younger in five makes with the makeup already in our home. The tips? Use concealer, Apply foundation, touch up your eyelids, use an eyelash curler, and hide laugh lines with soft concealer. It’s not about using expensive things, or spending two hours in the bathroom every day - its as simple as learning the right techniques.

Also, freshly picked Macintosh Apples three ways - for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

10_12_topper.jpg

Friday jumped right in with The Dish! Lara Spencer is on hand with the (reD)ish, and shares her experience interviewing the beautifully pregnant Halle Berry! Halle’s craving pepperchini’s, and is not planning on getting married the old-fashioned way, but she and her baby-daddy will reinvent it their own way.

Hallmark is teaming up with the Red Campaign, and debut’s their Christmas cards on the show. The next biggest engagement thing? Paparazzi Proposals! Photographers will stalk the couple, and catch the very moment of the proposal for the excited couple. Next on the list, Peace keeper Cause-metics. Environmentally friendly, and part of the proceeds go for a variety of causes - paint your nails and help save the planet. Last but not least, Intuition bags! Order the bags, and part of the proceeds go to help people around the world get educated.

Nicollette Sheridan joins Rach at the kitchen table, and talks about her trainer - her dog, of course! She and fiancé Michael Bolton traveled Italy for the summer, and she admits that they aren’t in any rush to get married - it’ll simply be when they have time. They’re not going anywhere!

Matt and Amy Roloff stop by and laugh about their kids forgetting about the cameras, and making it easy for mom to ‘know everything’, as well as how the show will deal with Matt’s DUI arrest. They will handle it like everything else - honestly, and let it all hang out. (I have to say the best part of Little People Big World? Is the fact that they ARE real and down to earth - their house is cluttered, they snipe and argue, like any real family. Awesome.)

Last but not least - What’s for dinner? Smokey Chicken Schnitzel with Honey-Mustard Salad.

A special for Rachael Ray fans!

RachJohn.jpgWe all have heard the divorce rumors that run rampant around Rachael and hubby John Cusimano. Everytime we turn around, there’s another tabloid saying they’re headed that way, and Rachael just shakes her head and continues to enjoy margaritas in Italy on her anniversary with her hubby. Perez spent over a week on it, and every day someone else mentions it too.

I decided to go in another direction. Beth, one of our writers here at 451 Press, writes for Astrology Explored, and she was interested in doing some posts and tying them in with celebrities and such that we report on around the network. So I asked her what the charts had in store for Rachael and her hubby, specifically in regards to the reported wedding woes. Now, I’m not much a believer in astrology, but what she found seems to mesh well with what Rachael herself has been saying.

astrology_cirlce.jpg“Marriage is a sacred ideal for Rachael. She’ll serve that ideal with self sacrifice no matter the challenges in front of her.”

Again, I’m not sure on the whole astrology stuff and don’t really buy into a lot of it. Beth, however, goes into great detail about what she discovered and explains it in lay mans terms, and comes up with a pretty good idea that Rachael will be standing by her man for several years yet to come. After that, who knows? Beth also says that in regards to the lessons that Rachael will learn about self-sacrifice, it won’t kick her down, but make her stronger and give Rach all the more exciting things to share with us! Sorry, haters, Rachael Ray is here to stay!

So go on over and check it out! Be sure to tell her Lessa sent you!

Minny, drivers and egg pants, oh my!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

10_10_topper.jpg

It was a Ranch-o-rama today on the Rachael Ray show - 7 new ways to enjoy Ranch Dressing - one for every day of the week! Rachael has decided to embrace the ranch, as a better for you base for a variety of different tastes. She starts with a homemade ranch dressing, and then adds everything from salsa to smoked salmon to tempt the taste buds seven different ways!

Then she went and broke our heart by confirming a reader’s idea that a serving sized waffle is not the giant fourpack from the waffle maker, but only one corner. Rach’s travel ideas gathered, then Minnie Driver joins Rach at the kitchen table to talk about her show, the Riches and she even sang too! Her travel must have? Her long shaw/scarf that a friend makes to order so that it’s a perfect fit for you!

A daughter asks the most heartbreaking question, and her elderly mother hands over the keys to her car. Sue Ferguson, a Senior Driving Consultant is on hand to give some statistics, and some ideas on how to know when it is time to hang up the keys. It’s about keeping the independence, while making sure that you and the others on the road are safe. 89 year old Mary agrees by the end of the segment to give up her keys, and Rachael surprises Mary with a handsome driver (who Mary just wanted to chat with!) for 100 hours of chauffer service via We Drive You. (…I want one! Do they come to Alaska? He was kinda handsome there in that dark suit… Of course, that would insinuate I have some place to go. Hrm.)

Ya’ll think I’m nuts with the “egg pants” in the title, don’t you? Ha! They’re real! Egg Pants are made to hold your soft boiled egg, of course! What’s for dinner tonight? Sicilian Chicken Stew!
